Whether you're getting ready for your wedding day, a special event, or a professional photoshoot, you want to look and feel your best in front of the camera. I work closely with my clients to help them feel fabulous, but also see snippets of how photographers help beautiful brides to relax in front of the camera, and to get the memories and photographs they love!

Here are my top tips to help you pose with ease, from where to hold your flowers to how to stand tall and own the moment.

1. Where to Hold Your Flowers

Brides and bridesmaids often ask me: “Where should I hold my bouquet?” The key is to keep it low and relaxed—just below your belly button, with your elbows slightly bent. This creates a natural line through the arms and avoids covering your dress or blocking your face in photos.

Tip: Tilt the bouquet forward a little so the photographer captures the blooms beautifully!

There are a few sayings that photographers use to help you remember, but they're all a little too blue to share on here!! 'P***s not B***s'- if you know you know!

2. Perfect Your Posture

Stand tall with a gentle roll of your shoulders back. Imagine a string gently pulling you upwards from the crown of your head. Good posture not only looks elegant but helps your outfit and styling sit just right.

If you're feeling nervous, plant your feet hip-width apart and shift your weight slightly to one leg—this gives a softer, more relaxed stance that photographs beautifully.

3. Hands and Arms Matter

Loose, natural arms always look better than stiff or tucked-in ones. If you’re not holding anything, gently rest one hand on your hip or let it fall loosely by your side. Avoid pressing your arms flat against your body—it can make them look bigger than they are in photos.

4. Find Your Best Angle

Most people don’t look their best head-on. Try turning your body slightly to the side, with one foot forward, then turn your head back toward the camera. It’s a flattering pose that works for almost everyone!

5. Relax Your Face

This is where great makeup really shines. Once you’re styled and camera-ready, take a breath, soften your expression, and let yourself feel happy. Think of something or someone you love—it shows through in the eyes and gives your photos real warmth.

A little tip: close your eyes, take a breath, then open them right before the shutter clicks. It gives your face a soft, natural energy.

When you book with me, you're not just getting hair and makeup—you’re getting someone in your corner who genuinely wants you to feel confident, beautiful, and fully yourself.

Your photographer also wants you to love your photos, so please discuss any concerns you have with them, before your big day.
